Magnesium and Depression.

It can often be the elephant in the room. The condition that no one feels comfortable talking about. But we really should, because if we are open and honest with each other, most of us have had periods in our lives when we (at the very least) are not feeling on top of our game. Or that getting out of bed is just too hard. It really is not uncommon at all. 

In Australia, it's estimated that 45 per cent of people will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime.1

In any one year, around 1 million Australian adults have depression, and over 2 million have anxiety.1

And while it can be scary, isolating or just difficult to talk about there many different ways you can help yourself or someone close to you - including using natural supplements like Magnesium. 

1. How is Magnesium going to help my mood?

 Magnesium is what we like to refer to as the 'Master Mineral' as it is involved in over 300 biochemical processes in the human body and is crucial for the proper functioning of the cardiovascular, alimentary, endocrine, and osteoarticular systems. It also plays a vital modulatory role in brain biochemistry, influencing several neurotransmission pathways associated with the development of depression.2 In people who have magnesium deficiency, neuronal requirements for magnesium may not be met, causing neuronal damage which could manifest as depression.3 One study showed depressed patients who supplemented with Magnesium daily for 8 weeks showed an improvement in their depression status. 4

2. I'm taking other prescription medications - is this safe to take as well?

Yes. The great thing about transdermal Magnesium is that it doesn't interact with any prescription medications such as antidepressants, blood pressure medication or cholesterol medication just to name a few, it's an easy and safe way to help get you back feeling like yourself again. 3. How do I use your Magnesium Oil?

Our Magnesium Oil is quite concentrated and we suggest starting with only one or two sprays morning and night onto your stomach, back or legs and working up to 10 sprays morning and night or alternatively using either our Bath Salts or Magnesium Body Balm to build up tolerance slowly whilst still get the benefit of transdermal magnesium absorption. Or if you are like me I like to use the Magnesium Wash, followed by the Magnesium Balm and finish by then spraying a couple of sprays of Magnesium Oil onto my stomach and back.

 

4. How quickly will it start to work?

Everyone is different. It really depends how depleted your current Magnesium levels are. It's not 'magic' and you do need to be consistent with your use, but upon follow up most people report a little more spring in their step after a month of consistent usage.
